Stephen Rado was born in Hungary in 1940, emigrating to the UK in 1957 where he married Jeanette and moved to South Africa with her in 1973 to settle in Cape Town.
Stephen always enjoyed drawing and painting but only took it up seriously after taking a course with the well known Cape Town watercolour artist, Bertie Jessop, and with Ron Ranson in the UK. After only one year, Stephen held his first one man exhibition where he sold 24 paintings. He went on to hold many exhibitions and became the founder member of Art in The Avenue. In 1987 he returned to the UK and was accepted as a member of the British Watercolour Society, achieving a highly recommended rating.
Stephen is now retired in Plettenberg Bay and is an active member of the Plettenberg Art Association and the Knysna Art Society, exhibiting regularly at the Old Gaol Gallery in Knysna. The Harkerville Market is a shop window for Stephen’s paintings and also for Jeanette’s jewellery: a talented couple, indeed.
